On and off-site activity cover
Schools in the Authority have been able to purchase on and off-site educational activity cover for four consecutive years.
"We introduced the scheme initially because we wanted schools and the Local Authority to be able to offer a financial payment, irrespective of any legal liability, in the event of a serious accident to a child participating in an off-site activity.
"In addition, we wanted a facility for schools to have insurance for medical expenses, personal effects and baggage, money and cancellation/curtailment costs for overseas trips. Later we gave schools the option to have on-site personal accident cover, so that again, a monetary payment could be offered in the event of a serious accident on school premises irrespective of liability.
“Prior to the arrangements with BEST, the previous insurer's personal accident and school journey policy required a great deal of administration recording information on individual trips. The arrangement with BEST simplified the administration and provided the levels of cover required on a 'blanket' basis for all authorised school trips and activities.
“The scope of cover and simplified arrangements were welcomed by our schools. As our requirements have altered due to additional schemes and initiatives our schools have entered into over the years, the scheme has accepted these under normal terms too.
"We have always found BEST's service to be very good. The team have always been very professional, helpful and friendly.”
