Staff absence insurance

To protect school budgets

We are a well established market leader, providing school staff absence insurance schemes and risk management advice to local authorities since 1992.      

Working in partnership with your authority we design, tailor and negotiate scheme cover and benefits with our insurer. We take great care to ensure we meet the individual needs and contractual obligations of each of our partners. Our insurer Groupama is rated A+ by Standard and Poors and we have maintained cover with them for in excess of ten years. Local authorities are provided with valuable management information which allows them to track and monitor absence trends.

We accurately profile and underwrite each individual school to ensure the long term security of our authority schemes. For more than ten years we have offered schools continuity of cover at each renewal. For schools renewing their policy, ongoing claims continue to be paid for the full benefit period.

We provide free visits to local authorities and individual schools upon request. 

We can offer a comprehensive range of key features and benefits, includng cover for:

  • All absences as a result of accident and illnesses* plus our policy provides additional lump sum payments for accidents which result in death or permanent total disablement
  • Both work and home related stress, including anxiety, depression, bereavement and chronic fatigue
  • Additional and optional cover such as cover for jury service, maternity leave (including paternity and adoption leave) and cover for HIV and AIDS related illnesses. Other additional covers and benefits can be negotiated upon request


In additon to these key covers we also offer:

  • A prompt and efficient claims service. Standard verification does not require the submission of doctors' notes or additional paperwork
  • A simple claims notification procedure which takes the pressure off school administrators, allowing up to 76 days to notify claims
  • No charges for mid-term fluctuations in staff numbers
  • Flexible schemes, giving schools a range of choices designed to meet their individual needs

*subject to standard policy exclusions

Schools can choose:

  • The staff categories they wish to insure
  • The daily benefit they require for each staff category
  • The excess period to be applied to each staff category
  • The benefit period required for each staff category
  • The level of stress cover required (zero, 30 days, full, (up to 365 days))
  • To include maternity, paternity and adoption leave cover
  • Schools covered by our accident and illness insurance are given access to our wellbeing support services. Orthopaedic rehabilitation is offered as part of our claims handling service and we provide telephone helpline assistance for counselling on stress and bereavement, medical advice and professional advice on tax and other issues.
