Frequently Asked Questions
-
What does CARE recommend as prudent limits of protection within the main home covers for liability protection?
Any insurance programme proposed needs to be based around how risk averse an organisation is. The standard levels of covers are
Employers' Liability
Limit of indemnity £10,000,000
Public and Products Liability
Limit of indemnity £5,000,000
Malpractice/ Treatment Liability
Limit of indemnity of £5,000,000
-
Do I need Malpractice/Treatment Cover?
Malpractice/Treatment cover provides indemnity against any errors or omissions in the administration of medication.
It would be our recommendation that all care homes have this cover as they do have an exposure. Even opening a bottle of aspirin for a service user will be deemed as administration.
-
Does the cover protect me against claims for allegations of abuse?
Yes, all policies that we recommend have abuse cover.
-
Will my policy provide protection against employment disputes?
Yes, all our care home insurers provide legal cover with an indemnity limit of £100,000. Cover is typically provided for such areas as employment and legal disputes and debt recovery.
-
Does my policy provide me with professional indemnity insurance?
No, professional indemnity insurance provides indemnity against you causing financial loss to a third party.
An example of this is where a third party suffers a financial loss from the wrong advice or training that you have given to an external person i.e. non-employees.
